The Christie Foundation is pleased to present the 6th Annual Runners’
Symposium on Saturday, February 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The symposium is sponsored by the Christie Foundation, the charitable arm of Christie Clinic.
The symposium was developed to educate runners planning to compete in the upcoming Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon on April 20-22, 2017.
This year’s symposium featured speaker will be Dick Beardsley. Dick is referred to as a running legend in the United States and is best known for his incredible race in the 1982 Boston Marathon. That race, on a very hot day, was dubbed the "Duel in the Sun" as he battled world record holder Alberto Salazar down to the finish line. Both broke the American record: Salazar won in a record time of 2:08:51, Beardsley’s time was 2:08:53, finishing 1.6 seconds later, placing second. He was at the height of his professional running career. Tragedy struck Dick’s life several times after that race, and he is now a compelling motivational speaker sharing his road back. Dick’s talk at the Symposium is titled “Maintaining Your Sanity and Your Fitness While Coming Back From Injury".
Medical professionals will provide breakout sessions and answer questions on the participants’ hot topics. The panelists for this event are
DR. RAFAEL RUGGIERI - “From Couch to 5K”
DR. ANDREW KLUESNER - “Keys to a Proper Warm Up”
DR. SCOTT PALUSKA - “Mythbusters”
JESSICA WOOD, PT - “Core Training for Runners”
BREE OCASIO, DPT - “Training a Runner’s Legs”
RACHEL ZUBRICKY, PT - “Developing a Year Round Training Program”
R.S.V.P. is not requested. For more information about The Christie Foundation or the Runners’ Symposium, please visit www.christie-foundation.org.
