First year in healthcare:
1995
Department:
Value-Based Care
How did you get to where you are today?:
I started in pediatrics as a nurse when I became licensed, and continued working in that department while in grad school. After graduation, I left my part-time positions and became a full-time float team member. I worked in a few different departments, then was floated to Hematology/Oncology. After a year floating in that department, I became a full-time oncology nurse. After 18 years, I transitioned to my current position. In both departments, I was able to use my nursing and educator skills to help my patients.
What drew you to Christie Clinic?:
My mother and sister both worked for Christie Clinic at the time. There was an MOA position in pediatrics on the weekends which worked well with my school schedule. I never imagined that I would work here until I retired.
Tell us WHY you chose your career path:
I have always wanted to work in the health field. Originally I worked with health-impaired students in the school setting. As they transitioned to the mainstream classes, I transitioned into nursing. This allowed me to provide that care to patients of all ages.
