In the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Hammel diagnoses and treats non-surgical illnesses or disorders from infancy through adulthood and promotes wellness care for patients of all ages.
Since I was a child, I always knew that I wanted to be a physician. My Primary Care Provider, Dr. Messmore, growing up was a very kind and caring man who would try to take care of every aspect of his patient's care. He once met me at his office at 8 pm to suture my forehead from a swing accident. You just had to call and he would see you. He was always there. This is the type of physician I want to strive to be in my career.

I try and set realistic expectations for all my patients in my care. By doing this, I help them define their goals for care and then we are able to work towards those goals together. After patients see me, I want them to know that I care about their overall health and well being. Through goals, our relationship can help them live long, happy lives.
