First year in healthcare:

1984

Department:

Compliance

How did you get to where you are today?:

I started at Christie Clinic working evenings as a patient account rep/data entry clerk. I quickly learned I loved the data entry and all the ins and outs of the Business Office. After many years of working in the Business Office, I earned my professional coding credential (CPC), and was amazed at how endless the learning opportunities are. An opening came up in the Compliance Department in 2022, and it felt like the natural move to make. I now hold 3 coding credentials, and enjoy learning and mentoring others.

Tell us WHY you chose your career path:

My high school offered a 'Medical Careers' program and it was part of my curriculum all through high school. I graduated as a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked as a home health care assistant, then moved to The Urbana Nursing Home. I started at Christie Clinic in the Business office in September of 1987.

Is there anyone who helped you along the way?:

Every experience has helped me learn the way I want to present myself to others. The patience shown to me throughout the years while I learned and grew was invaluable. Special appreciation for my current supervisor who saw my potential and has helped me get to where I am today, focusing on helping others grow and providing coding education.
