As a member of Christie Clinic’s Department of Neurology, Dr. Shyu specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system including: brain tumors, strokes, and seizures; neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders; demyelinating diseases like multiple sclerosis; neuromuscular diseases such as neuropathies and myopathies; and also diseases that relate to cancer.
My interest in neurology began formally as an undergraduate student, where I worked with neuroscience doctors at The Beckman Institute. Their desire to better understand the amazing complexity of the human brain helped fuel my interest and intrigue. As a neurologist, I am able to fulfill my personal intellectual interest of understanding the brain, as well as try to help those who are unfortunate enough to have related problems.
I have family roots in Taiwan and grew up in New York state. In my free time, I enjoy reading about new computer technologies and playing chess and poker. I am an amateur film reviewer.

I’d like for patients to feel like I’m approachable with any questions or concerns that they might have; many patients feel that their visit to the doctor is one of the most important things they do in a particular day—I’d like to think that I can appreciate that feeling and give them the full attention they deserve.
