In the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Dr. Porter specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of childhood illnesses from infancy to young adulthood. Dr. Porter is also a clinical faculty member with the University of Illinois and mentors minority youths in medical school at the U of I through the Urban Health Preceptorship Program.
I have always wanted to be a physician—since the second grade. My interest in the inner workings of the body was my motivation. I was very inquisitive and wanted to know how things worked and why they worked the way they did.
I grew up in Champaign and was a Christie Clinic patient as a child. For relaxation, I enjoy photography, cooking, and aerobic exercise.

Growing up in a single-parent home, I was concerned with having the funds for college and medical school. Early on, I thought that it would be a big challenge to try to overcome, but I was blessed with a full scholarship for my undergraduate studies, various financial aid, and scholarships for medical school, including funds from the Christie Foundation.
